The Erskine Fountain is a memorial to Judge John Erskine, gifted to the city of Atlanta in 1896 by his daughter, Ruby Ward. Erskine served on the Federal District Court of Georgia during the Reconstruction period following the Civil War. Ward commissioned John Massey Rhind, a prominent memorial designer, to create the fountain. It was originally located at the intersection of Peachtree and West Peachtree Streets but later relocated to Grant Park in 1912 where it was soon forgotten and neglected. In 2014 a group of interested neighbors collaborated and raised funds to restore the fountain to its present, working state for all to enjoy. Today the fountain continues to be maintained by volunteers of the Grant Park Conservancy.
